CAEA YOUTH ART MONTH

YOUTH ART MONTH - 2008
"Art Lets Kids March to Their Own Beat "
The theme was selected to tie in with this year’s conference theme, without being identical to it.  An art project based around a yearly theme unifies the many individual efforts across our large state.  While obviously all artwork will not revolve around this theme, it is requested that one project does.

The project is meant to provide art advocacy opportunities. It is hoped that educators, administrators, and community members outside the visual arts education circle will be involved in some way.  The “involvement” can be as simple as giving the finished artwork to a board member or administrator as a gift.

Many different projects can spring out of the idea of “Art Lets Kids March to Their Own Beat”. The rain stick is a musical instrument created by native peoples in the rain forest.  Making a rain stick is a great way to combine music and visual art.  I found an easy elementary lesson plan at www.dariamusic.com.  Other projects can revolve around students creating their own CD or album cover.  Have fun, and let me know what you are doing!

Click to find our Start Kit.  This 2-page informational document will help you organize a Youth Art Month Show, and complete the follow-up report on your exhibit.  It also contains contact information you may need.  Click to download the YAM report form, (or request it from me so you can type directly into the document.)

New in 2008 is sponsorship by Sargent Art.  With their help, winners of Youth Art Month area shows will go to a new state level competition for grades K – 12.  Go to the Sargent Art website (www.sargentartcom) for more details.

Congratulations to our State Winners who will go on to New York.
