CAEA Annual State Conference

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Art

{San Jose, 2010} Conference
November 18 - 21, 2010

Things are really beginning to shape up for the November 18th-21, 2010 CAEA State Conference, Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Art. We have an “All Star” line up of keynote presenters and speakers: J Walt, Carmen Lomas Gaza, and Bill Cone.

The CAEA State Conference Committee, Co-Chaired by Susan Manbeian and Barbara Purdy, for the November 18-21, 2010 conference in San Jose, has many ideas to make the conference something everyone will want to attend. Beginning with the Keynote Speakers, JWalt, interactive digital image master, brings his “symposium fantasia” to the conference and a workshop for the Digital Strand. Carmen Lomas Garza, Latina artist, author of children’s books, will share her artworks and teach a Master Class. Bill Cone will speak about the films he has worked on at Pixar and teach a Master Class demonstrating the pastel techniques he uses in film and fine art (visit Keynote Speakers for the interview of Bill Cone).

Dr. Lee Hanson is chairing the Administrative / Higher Education Strand scheduled for Friday, November 19, 2010, and TCAP is designing the Elementary Strand scheduled for Saturday, November 20, 2010. We have been given access to three computer labs at a nearby high school and Gina Holmberg will be planning the Digital Strand, including a workshop by JWalt that no one will want to miss!

What else will be new? We are updating the Administrative Strand to include Higher Education. This year, Dr Lee Hanson, CSUSJ, is chairing the Administrative/Higher Education Strand, and she began by surveying the Art Education Departments of all of the CTC approved programs. Plans are also in order for a dynamite Digital Strand and TCAP is planning another Elementary Strand that should not want to be missed by generalist elementary teachers.

The 2010 San Jose Conference will be held at the easily accessible Double Tree Hotel near the San Jose airport, a venue that everyone raved about when we were there before. We are doing our best to keep the prices down. Room rates are $128 for a single and $129 for a double per night. Make it cheaper and bring a friend to split the cost. Don’t know anyone coming? Email your area president and find out who is going to San Jose, November 18-21, 2010. Begin to plan today! See you in San Jose!
